Poinsettia / Christmas Star

Poinsettia Abano Terme – the flower symbol of Christmas

The poinsettia, also known as the Christmas Star or Christmas flower, is one of the most sought-after houseplants during the winter holiday season. Native to Mexico and Central America, this plant has become a global Christmas symbol thanks to its star-shaped, vividly colored bracts, which appear in deep red, pink, or white. The blooming period runs from December through February or from January through March, covering the entire festive season. OkFlora offers fresh, well-maintained poinsettias available with delivery Abano Terme.

The origin and meaning of the poinsettia

The poinsettia takes its name from Joel Poinsett, a former American diplomat who brought the plant to the United States in 1825. A Mexican legend from the 16th century tells of a poor girl who, guided by an angel, brought a handful of weeds to church, where they transformed into beautiful flowers. The United States celebrates National Poinsettia Day on December 12th. The plant's main attraction is not its flowers but its bracts, modified leaves that remain on the plant for two to six months.

How to care for a poinsettia at home Abano Terme

A few basic conditions help extend the plant's decorative life. The ideal temperature is up to 25°C during blooming and up to 15°C during dormancy. Air humidity should be kept high, and the plant should be protected from direct sunlight while in bloom. Watering should be generous during the active period and minimal during dormancy, using warm, settled water. If purchased with unopened buds, the poinsettia will remain in its decorative stage for longer.
